Laura Fólica

Laura Fólica is a senior research scientist at the Institute of Language, Literature, and Anthropology (ILLA), part of the Center for Human and Social Sciences (CCHS) at the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC). She is currently co-directing, together with Diana Roig-Sanz, the project “Translating Diversity: Institutional Agents and Translation Policies in Ibero-America (2001–2022)”, funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities (2024–2027).

At the Open University of Catalonia (UOC), she was a founding member of the Laboratory for Global Literary Studies (GlobaLS) and principal investigator (together with Diana Roig-Sanz) of the research line Global Flows of Translation. She was also a postdoctoral researcher in the ERC Starting Grant project MapModern – Social Networks of the Past: Mapping Hispanic and Lusophone Literary Modernity, 1898–1959.

Her research interests include the sociology of translation, Latin American studies, periodical publications, and digital humanities. She currently analyzes literary translation within a corpus of Ibero-American newspapers, using digital tools and data mining from a transnational, large-scale perspective.

She has published over thirty articles and book chapters on literary translation from historical and sociological perspectives. She has also translated books for Ibero-American publishing houses in the fields of humanities and social sciences, including works by Pascale Casanova, Roger Chartier, Élisabeth Roudinesco, Gisèle Sapiro, Jean-Marie Schaeffer, and Enzo Traverso, among others.
