Is a Senior Lecturer in History. His research focuses on nineteenth-century Latin America as both a cultural region and a constructed space of material and cultural interaction, with particular emphasis on Brazil and on transnational practices such as diplomacy, travel, intellectual exchange, intertextuality, and translation. His books Bridging the Island: Brazilian Views of Spanish America and Themselves (2011) and Transnational South America: Experiences, Ideas, and Identities (2016), alongside other publications, have broken new ground in the study of transnationalism inside Latin America. He is also a translator and editor of Latin American literature and has introduced Hebrew-speaking readers to works by Domingo Faustino Sarmiento, Mariano Azuela, Alejo Carpentier, Jorge Luis Borges, Che Guevara, and Ricardo Piglia.
