Henry Chukwudi JOHN
Henry Chukwudi John is a PhD candidate at the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya. My doctoral project, Postcolonial Lagos City: Mapping Cultural Heritage and Identity through Nigerian Literature in a Digital Age, examines how Lagos City is represented in Nigerian novels using digital humanities methods such as corpus analysis and geospatial mapping. A key outcome of this research is LitScape, a digital corpus and mapping platform that links literary passages with mapped locations in Lagos City to visualise cultural memory and urban narratives. Alongside the thesis, I develop several DH initiatives, including LitTech-Lagos (literary mapping and spatial storytelling), the Nigerian Museums Map (a digital map of cultural heritage institutions in Nigeria), and NigEwriter, a corpus project documenting Nigerian writers and their global circulation.
My work sits at the intersection of digital humanities, global literary studies, translation studies, and African cultural heritage, with a focus on using digital tools to document and visualise marginalised literary and urban spaces such as Lagos City in Nigeria.
