The Anarchist Translation Flows and World Literature Project (ARGOT)
Lucía Campanella, senior researcher at GlobaLS – Global Literary Studies Research Lab, completed the project “The Anarchist Translation Flows and World Literature Project” (ARGOT), carried out between 2023 and 2025.

ARGOT was a postdoctoral project funded by the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA, Grant Agreement No. 101065157) of the European Commission. The project examined a transatlantic geopolitical space over two decades in order to explore how anarchists dispersed across the globe shared a significant number of literary texts through translations circulating in periodical press networks.
By combining data mining and innovative Digital Humanities methodologies with hermeneutic and close-reading approaches, ARGOT opened new research avenues on the role of translation and intercultural transfer within international anarchism between 1890 and 1910.
Working across multiple languages and national contexts, the project analysed literary translations published in anarchist newspapers and journals in various port cities across Europe and the Americas. It also shed light on the key roles played by women in anarchism, particularly in translation and publishing activities, through the publication of the collective volume Anarquistas Editoras: Biografías políticas en femenino (Comares, 2025, open access).
