International Conference “Rethinking Film History Through Global and Digital Approaches (Early 1020s – Early 1970s)”

From 4th to 7th October 2022 the UOC’s Poblenou Campus will hold the international conference Rethinking Film History Through Global and Digital Approaches (Early 1920s – Early 1970s), organized by Diana Roig-Sanz, Ainamar Clariana i Pablo Suárez-Mansilla, researchers of the ERC StG project Social Networks of the Past. Mapping Hispanic and Lusophone Literary Modernity, 1898-1959 of the Global Literary Studies Research Lab (GlobaLS) from IN3-UOC, and Malte Hagener, researcher of the Marburg Centre for Digital Culture and Infrastructure (MCDCI) from the Philipps-Universität Marburg (Germany).

The aim of this conference is to debate, from a gender, ethical, interdisciplinary and digital perspective, the concerns that the new generation of film historians have in relation to the global dynamics that challenge Eurocentric and Western discourses and which promote plural and heterogeneous ways of thinking.

The conference will bring together researchers from all over the world and will have the participation of the most prestigious speakers in this field. Specifically, Malte Hagener (Philipps-Universität Marburg), Masha Salazkina (Concordia University), Valeria Camporesi (Universidad Autónoma de Madrid), Georgina Torello (Universidad de Uruguay), Julia Noordegraf (University of Amsterdam), Daniela Treveri Gennari (Oxford Brookes University), Michael Cowan (Iowa University) and Rielle Navitski (Georgia University), who will discuss the most relevant theoretical and methodological issues of this meeting in four round tables.

The rest of the interventions on cinema and gender, cinema history and digital perspectives, cinema and the global south or the history of cineclubs can be heard in various presentations spread over nine sessions.

The complete program can be checked here.

To attend the congress, you need to register through this form. The inscription is free.
